In a study published in the African Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology (2012), Jinous Asgarpanah and Elaheh Haghighat write extensively about the potential health benefits of the Sidr tree, also known as Ziziphus spina-christ Tree, or Lotte Tree. Historically in the Middle East and South and East Asia including Iran, the Sidr tree has been used in alternative medicine for the treatment of fever, pain, dandruff, wounds and ulcers, inflammatory conditions, asthma and to cure eye diseases. Z. spina-christi has recently been shown to have antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-hyperglycemic, and antinociceptive activities. This would explain the worldwide popularity of this revered luxury honey.
